What is microcement and why do we make furniture from it

Most people associate concrete with construction. With raw material, bridge piers, or the grey surface beneath their feet. So, when we say our furniture is made of microcement, it's fair to explain what that actually means and why we chose this material.

Microcement is not cast concrete

Microcement is a fine cement mixture that we apply in thin layers to a solid core. It is not a solid block cast into a mould. After curing, we hand-smooth, sand, and finally seal each layer. The result is a continuous, seamless surface with the character of natural stone.

This is the main difference from conventional cast concrete. Cast concrete is created as one heavy piece and carries all its disadvantages: significant weight and a tendency to crack within the material. Microcement bypasses these weaknesses. The layer adheres to a stable core, so the resulting piece is 70% lighter and dimensionally more stable.

Why microcement, not wood or stone

Each material tells a different story. Wood is warm and soft, stone is cool and definitive. Microcement stands somewhere in between. It has the calmness and depth of stone, but also a handcrafted delicacy you feel under your palm.

For a brand that builds on restraint and quality over clamour, this material makes sense. It doesn't need decoration or shine. It relies on the material itself, light, and shadow.

Qualities you'll appreciate

Durability. Properly sealed microcement is hard, water-resistant, and withstands normal daily use. Minor shades and surface texture are not defects, but the imprint of handcraft.

Weight. Thanks to the core and thin layer, the piece is much lighter than solid concrete of a similar size. You can usually move a table by yourself.

Character. Microcement ages slowly and gracefully. It doesn't hide time; it carries it.

Care is simple

Just a soft damp cloth and a gentle cleaner; avoid aggressive chemicals and renew the impregnation once or twice a year. Details can be found in the Care and Maintenance instructions.
